another day, another park

Halifax is blessed with many wonderful parks, each one, different from the rest.  We have everything from manicured with perennial beds, to pastoral, with meandering paths through rolling meadows to forested with mulched, dog-friendly trails.

I had added Admiral's Cove Park to my must-visit list, after I came across a reference to some carvings on rocks, near the park's shore.  Located near the top of the Bedford Basin (the upper harbour above both bridges in Halifax), this hidden gem,  nestled near the end of a dead-end road.

Unlike most parks I've visited,  this one was hard to find, and once found, lacked a parking lot.  I simply tucked my car as far to the side of the road as I could.

This is the view that met me, when I stepped from my car into the woods.

There was no signed, or marked trail.

"Is that a trail?", I thought to myself as I peered at an opening in the boggy wood.

Trey felt that it was, so we followed it.  I was very glad I was wearing my new lined, waterproof boots.

Though I could see the harbour, far below, the trail, only led upwards.

I loved the feeling of the warm sunshine my back, on this uncommonly mild, late November day.

As I wandered along, Trey would bring me his ball and I'd chuck it for him.  He's great fun to have along on a walk.

Since I needed to pick Kait up from work, I didn't have time to walk very far into the park, but what I'd seen,  left me wanting more.

So I'm going back tomorrow.

  1. Don't you love the way the roots look sticking up out of the ground like that? Kind of like bones of trees... Isn't it also sometimes challenging trying to figure out where to park during these walks? Thanks for taking us along, Sybil!

  2. Kathy, I do love the roots. I'm also nutty for moss.

Thanks for coming along, I love having company on my walks. ;-)

  3. I think you're so adventurous to walk on something you only "think" is a trail. Your photos are great.

  4. dearrosie, sadly, this park is so close to a major road that you can always orient yourself to the distant car sounds. ;-)
