Dollar Lake with Amy-Lynn

I'd heard about some neat caves near Dollar Lake Provincial Park and suggested that Amy-Lynn and I go check 'em out.

Unfortunately to check them out, they must first be found.  I "thought" I knew where they were ...

But we had a nice walk anyway,

along a semi-soggy woodland trail that lead to this lovely beach.

In summer, Dollar Lake is a pretty popular beach.

I am not the least bit tempted to go there in summer.

Pine needles

See the beaver lodge ?

And we had the entire park to ourselves, except for a road crew putting in a new bridge.

  3. Too bad you didn't find your caves, but your explorations always look like good fun! By the way, I like the new look of the blog. I keep trying to decide if I will change mine up soon too - it has been a quite a while since I've tried something new.

    1. Thanks Karma. It's just one of those basic templates. I like the colour better. I wasn't willing to invest much time in it. I just clicked a preview, liked it, and POOF ! VOILA ! It changed. That's as techy as I get.

  5. All the best walks happen in autumn. I don't know why, but it's true. I would like Dollar Lake. Caves not so much. But I'd wait outside while you explored.

    1. You can see so far when the leaves are off the trees Gerry. I'm happy with everything but "bug season" ... that's when I tend to hang out near the ocean. The on-shore winds blow the little buggers away.

  6. I love your walks too and wish I could see Nova Scotia one day. I particularly enjoyed your pictures of the lake curves and those thin artistic pine needles.

    1. Isa, Thanks. Those pine needles fascinated me as they seemed to have been washed into that pattern by recent rains.

I'm used to visiting the seashore and found the beauty of the lake very different. That sort of scenery is similar to what I left behind in Ontario.

Email me if you're ever coming to Nova Scotia. You're welcome to stay here.

  7. Simon confirmed today that yes, he had lifeguarded there many, many years ago. It really is 'outside' the city but well worth it if you're not keen on swimming in the frigid salt waters of the Atlantic. Loved the walk. It was long but very enjoyable :)

  8. What a fun hike! I like how you have a good attitude, even though you didn't find the caves. Perhaps you will appreciate them even more that you must wait until another day. I do so love the pine needle photo. It looks exquisite. (Did you bring me along to the park, too?)

    1. Sorry you didn't come on the hike. Apparently you're hanging out in Lynne's sewing drawer !

  9. Enjoyed the walk at Dollar Lake with you - that's another new one for me. Pity you didn't get to the caves. Looks as if you should have been on the other side of the stream that went down to the beach. But never mind, a bit more research and you can head off again.

    1. Jackie, I've since figured out that the caves must be accessed from outside the park by walking up a stream bed. I think I'll wait for warmer weather for that !
