I'm in a funk ...

I think we live so much inside our heads.  One day I can be ticking along feeling that life is good, then suddenly something flicks off the "happy-switch" and the world just doesn't look the way it did yesterday.

What flips that switch ?  Could be the minimal daylight, inability to garden, the approach of Christmas, or the massacre of a room full of children ?  Not sure.  Feeling glum.

Circular sad thoughts.

When you're feeling sad, the things that normally cheer you, don't anymore.

I'm hoping you're all feeling good, and immune to my woe-is-me post.   The last thing I want to do is bum you out and drag you into my funk.  But I just don't feel up to a cheerful, walking-the-dogs-life-is-jolly-post today.

What do you do when you find yourself feeling sad ?   When you loose your sense of meaning ?

When you're stuck in a funk ?

  1. I am with you in that funk, and you didn't drag me there. I always feel a little low as Christmas approaches, for personal reasons, and the events in the USA have dragged me even deeper. I'm better when I am out with folk, because when I'm home I cannot shut down my thoughts. I shall be spending Thurs evening with the Youth Group, and hopefully that will be a spirit lifter. Take care, Sybil.

  2. Thanks for sharing Bonnie. Knowing that I'm not alone helps.

I've got choir on Wednesday and singing always lifts my spirits ...

All these ads on TV about the "End of the World" don't help ...

  3. How do you know if you are feeling good if at some point you don't feel bad? It passes. Yep, it is one of the many Christmas feelings. Journalling is good. Your blogs bring joy to many people. Playing solitaire with your BFF is pretty uplifting too. Make sure you get to choir. Being with friends help. And you have some lovely ones there who cherish you.

Will we ever get snow? How about Sun? I would settle for sun. I love the pic with you in the box. I rarely see you in one.

    1. Hello my dear,

A game of on-line solitaire with my Ontario chum sounds like a good idea.

Snow ? Hmmm. Certainly not here. Forecast is for rising temps and possibility of rain.

That's my nephew Liam in the box. He was in a real funk that day.

Hope this finds you funk-less my friend.

  4. When I get like that I feel the need to wallow in it for a while and let it run its course. If I need to kick start it out the door I watch a take-me-away sort of movie.

    1. Thanks Les. Wallowing was on my "to do" list. ;-) I'm feeling like I'm in mid-wallow.

It's been a while since I felt like this ...

I think a take-me-away sort of movie is a great idea. I might just pull out my Harry Potter DVD's.

  5. A lot of people seem to be feeling low after everything that's happened recently. A taxpayer came to pay taxes today and said she didn't even feel like celebrating Christmas. I hugged her good and tight. When I'm feeling funky and low meditation and deep breathing help sometimes. To get beneath (or above) the thoughts and emotions that are taking over big-time. Not as away to avoid feeling--but as a way to watch the feelings and see what thoughts are triggering them and move into the observer mode. **And to be kind to oneself** That seems to be the biggest thing Hugs, Sybil. Love, Kathy

    1. Kathy, sounds like sound advice. I've been wanting to learn how to meditate for a while now.

And here we are one the edge of some sort of psychic evolution (according to some folk). No better time for me to learn.

Glad you're dispensing hugs. Not what one usually expects from a tax collector, but definitely what I'd expect of a tax collector named Kathy.

  6. You are not alone in the mood thing. I am down in the dumps at least half of the time. World and US news just deepens the depression. However, it will pass- it always does.

    1. Thanks. I am sorry you are down in the dumps so often. That's tough.

The world is a puzzling place. The only way to make any sense is to see one's ability to make a difference -- if only in passing on a smile.

  7. Funks happen. But without them, how could we appreciate the bright spots? Love your images, despite your funk. I have a hard time writing and interacting when in a funk, so I doff my hat to your perseverance.

  8. When I feel down I go for a walk. Helps every time. You don't have to drive to some beautiful spot. If I'm feeling down I can't bear the thought of facing traffic so I just walk in my neighborhood.

Hope all these comments have helped.

    1. I'm lucky Rosie. No big traffic between me and pretty spots. I agree, walking is good.

  9. Are those my son's feet sticking out of that box? I know what you mean about funks. For me, it's usually some combination of lack of sunlight and too many obligations.

    1. Yes dearest nephew, those are your son's feet sticking out of the box. For me it's the lack of sunlight and too little (or no) gardening.

      Love, Auntie S.
