12 months.

Those bloggers over at WordPress have all the fun.     Several of them are doing 12-month retrospectives prompted by a "Freshly Pressed" challenge.

Unfortunately WordPress allows for some nifty ways to display those photo collections  and I of course, am not using WordPress.  I'm starting to wonder why not.

How many photos do you take in a year ?  It's hard to imagine selecting 12 favourites from a year's worth of photos, and as you will see, I was not able to do that.

I picked this photo from January because I thought it was rather artsy.  The steps are up  the side of a WWII bunker at Hartlen Point, where I had gone exploring with Trey.  You're not supposed to be there.  This photograph represents my love of exploring and my disobedient tendencies.

In February, my friend Sandy from Ontario came for a visit,

Sandy at the Blomidon look off.

and I visited my brother Darrell and some family in Ottawa in time to experience the Winterlude Festival on the Rideau Canal.

Oh dear.  I picked two photos for February.

For my March birthday, friend Amy-Lynn, made me a gift of the beautiful portrait she'd made of your favourite goofball and mine -- Trey.  Didn't she just capture the soppy look of his eyes perfectly ?

The high point of April was a trip to visit family in Portland, Oregon.

The beautiful Japanese Garden.
Stacey and I.

May was marked by two wonderful events -- a solo visit from my sister-in-law Janet,

and the wedding of my good friends Amy and Mickie at Hartlen Point.

In June my friend Pat came for a visit from Ontario,

and the lupines gloriously came into bloom.

The Pride Parade was in July.  I love the pride parade more each year.

Me, Mickie and Amy.

July, actually, June, July, August, September and any another month with a "diggable-day", is a good day for gardening.  I love moving rocks, shifting plants that have barely gotten accustomed to their current location, to a new ones, and planting trees.

In July, the Tall Ships came.

August found me travelling to Bear River, aka "The Village on stilts" and then on to Brier Island with friend from Ontario, Margie.

Friends Sue and Roger also visited in August.

In September I had a wonderful camping adventure on the Bay of Fundy.

My lovely brother, Darrell, visited in October,

and Lynne and I explored McNab's Island.

In November, I went hiking with Amy-Lynn, Lynne and "flat Kathy" in the woods near Lynne's home.   Actually I go hiking all the time but this photo represents a year full of hikes.

And this one, the almost daily walks with Wendy and Trey.

December found me showing Lynne the sights around Blomidon.

And there you have it, a year in review.

What a marvellous exercise this has been !   I am so grateful for all the family and friends who have visited and for all those who live nearby.

Gardening, hiking, exploring.  Gosh I'm lucky.

  3. Lovely post Sybs. Now I really know what I've got to look forward to as the months go by. Can't wait to do more walks with you and the dogs. In no time you'll be back digging in the garden, you'll see. You are my very good friend for which I am glad.

  4. Sybil,

That is a great collection of photos & memories to summarize a whole year!

I really like your self portrait captured in a mirror reflection at the book store. It reminds me of the artwork by M. C. Escher.

    Regards,
    Andrew

  6. Hmmm, not sure we're on speaking terms...yet...but I read this a few days ago and admired all your pictures, especially the one of Flat Kathy. Do we get a vote about whether you move to WordPress? I vote Yes. Please. You'll like it lots better. I blogged here for one day several years ago and left. It didn't feel like a community. However, I probably just didn't know how to FIND the community.

    1. Please be on speaking terms with me Kathy. I'd miss you so much if you weren't ...

There is no Blogger community, nor any attempt to create one. It just seems so overwhelming to change platforms ...

    2. Yes, I suppose so. We shall not NOT be on speaking terms! How is that for a double negative? *grin*

  7. A wonderful look at 2012! Sometimes it is VERY difficult to choose only 12 photos - I've been guilty in the past of being unable to narrow it down. I think this is a great representation of great memories.

  8. What a lovely collection. I'm happy to say that I recognize many of them even though I know I'm an 'irregular' visitor. You live in such a beautiful place, visit beautiful places and capture them beautifully to share with us. Thank you. Here's to another 12 months of adventures.

  10. Dunno about the Wordpress/Blogger thing - WP can behave in extremely obnoxious ways, which I would detail if I weren't trying to cram a week's blog-visiting into one hour at the library. Community is built on visits with people whose company you enjoy, regardless of where they live In Real Life or on online. Look at all the WP bloggers who visit you and Trey and Wendy! It's nice to spend time with you, and Amy-Lynn, and PJ Grath at Dog Ears Books, and Martha at Living with Tourists, just as it is with Scott and Karma and Mrs. Uhdd and Mr. Tootlepedal. The platform is far less important than the content. (And these are great photos - it was nice to see some of my favorites again, and to see the June bookstore shot for the first time.)

  11. I really enjoyed the year in review. I did one recently but just for the weddings I photograph. Your pictures and the writeup make me realize that I need to get out more with my camera for personal photos. We should meet up one day and go for a walk together, you can show me some of the hidden places you've found :) Keep up with the blogging, it's always a good read.
