Saskatchewan.

I just got back from a trip to Saskatchewan to visit three of my cousins who live in, and near, Saskatoon.

Just as Nova Scotia has several "must-see" places, from the lighthouse at Peggy's Cove, to the massive tides of the Bay of Fundy, this lovely Prairie province has its own iconic  images.

An abandoned grain elevator.

Snow Geese rising off a prairie pond.

Buffalo.

Big sky and golden fields.

And of course, I had to buy a souvenir T-shirt*.

* The joke goes that Saskatchewan is so flat that you can see your dog running away, for THREE days.    BTW the outline around the lettering is the shape of the province.  The other T-shirt I considered buying said: "Saskatchewan--easy to draw--hard to spell".

to be continued ...

  1. These are all starkly beautiful, especially the clouds, but my DNA would only allow a brief visit before it required salt water.

  2. Sybil, your pictures are beautiful! They are amazing! So glad you had a blast in Saskatchewan with your look-alike cousin & two other cousins too. The prairie is so different from the woods and the sea, isn't it?

    1. The motto on the SK licence plates is: "Land of the Living Skies" Kewl eh ? The Northern Lights can be amazing there too with no pesky trees to obstruct your view. ;-)

  3. Sybil, these are really good pics. I love the photos of the geese and of the buffalo and the old buildings. So much character in this prairie province.

    1. Seeing the landscape go from horizon to horizon is something most of us aren't used to. Far from being boring, it holds a majestic beauty all its own.

  4. Wow, what amazing sights you got to see! All those geese together at once - so cool! And buffalo on the prairies of Canada - I had no idea.

    1. The buffalo herds in Canada like yours in the U.S. mid-west, used to be massive and most impressive. The buffalo in that pic are behind a fence and raised for meat.

    1. Jackie, the noise from the rising geese was amazing. I never thought the prairie was covered with so very many ponds and most of the full of migrating geese.
