Scott Thomas's latest photo challenge over at Views Infinitum, asked us to to show what constitutes the end of summer for us.
It's been a long, unseasonably hot summer here in Nova Scotia.
For me, the end of summer means the coming of fall. Autumn is my favourite season. The cooler nights make for easier sleeping and cooler days are perfect for hiking. The cooler weather causes the leaves to start turning, and the woods are alive with colour.
But it is nice to sit outside on a lovely summer's day. I'll miss that.
Warm summer-time paddles over to Lawlor Island -- I'll miss that.
Dipping my hand into the ocean to marvel out its wonders -- I'll miss that.
Or dipping my hand into my backyard pond and checking out its wonders -- I'll miss that.
They're baby salamanders. |
Oh dear. I thought I was OK with summer being done.
Gorgeous pictures, Sybil ! Love the second one ;) and the harbour as night falls. Yes, there is a lot we will miss when Summer goes but think of this favourite Season of yours : colourful Fall.
ReplyDeleteThanks Isa... I do love the fall. And they're predicting a milder than normal winter ...
DeleteWhat a sin that it all has to come to an end:(
ReplyDeleteThose baby salamanders are SO cute. I found a couple of adult ones canoodling under a stone this morning. If we're all lucky this winter will be a mild one and they won't be forced too far underground.
That's a lovely cove scene and those colorful trees against that tender blue sky are gorgeous.
Thanks Amy-Lynn. That lovely cove is on the back side of Lawlor's Island.
DeleteOh my goodness! Is that you in the second and last picture? :) Ahhh, sweet summer. It's hard to say goodbye to its beauties and warmth and gifts.
ReplyDeleteKathy, only one of those shots are of me. I'll leave you to guess which one. ;-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful collection, Sybil. Such wonderful memories of a wonderful season - even if it was a little hot for you! ;-) Those tiny salamanders are a really cool shot!
ReplyDeleteI was really thrilled with those salamanders.
Deletebeautiful, I especially LOVE your backyard pond xo S + Gang
ReplyDeleteI seem to be hooked on having ponds Susan. I have one resident frog in it too.
DeleteWhat a lovely summary of a wonderful summer chez vous. I love the long summer nights in Canada
ReplyDeleteI never thought about it, but in California are the days and nights pretty much the same length year-round ?
