Fresh roads sliced through the beautiful country side.
One of the roads lead down to a lake, where one day, posh, over-sized homes with manicured lawns will sit.
Another day we walked in the Sackville Woods near my home.
Once upon a time there was a quarry in the valley. ATV trails lead around the low, boggier parts of the valley.
Of course one day we went for a walk to Shubie off leash dog park.
Next we checked out the new dog park near the Canada Games Centre. The park was hard to find as it was poorly signed. It's a more traditional park; fully fenced with a double gate system.
The park has two parts. A small woodsy walking loop,
and a large fenced field.
Yesterday we headed out to Hammonds Plains where I was meeting a friend for lunch. Prior to leaving I checked the Halifax Regional Municipalities' listing of dog parks and sure enough I found one nearby on Kingswood Drive.
The park consisted of one very large unfenced loop through some beautiful, mossy, lush woods.
In the centre of the loop, reached only from the original entrance was a large, open field where the dogs joyfully romped and followed their noses through the grass.
We really are fortunate that Halifax is such a dog-friendly place.
Are there dog parks near where you live ?
wow, you really get around! lovely walks & parks!
ReplyDeleteAnd I checked out two more yesterday. And I just learned that a huge ball diamond near us is a dog park from November to April ! But you're even luckier with all your marvellous beach walks girlfriend.
DeleteThose dogs sure get you out and about, don't they? Beautiful foliage!
ReplyDeleteDebra, if it weren't for the dogs some days I wouldn't step foot out my door. They are my sanity savers.
DeleteBeautiful trees and areas for a walk and for the dogs.
ReplyDeleteBonnie especially so at this time of year. Sadly, the rain and winds are tearing the last of the leaves from the trees. Sigh ...
DeleteThe woods are looking beautiful around Sackville right now, Sybil, with those beautifully coloured autumn leaves. Walking the dogs must be a joy for both pups and people! :)
ReplyDeleteJoanne, the fall is a lovely time; but it's too brief and followed by bloody Winter !
DeleteYou are very lucky to have so many dog-friendly places in your area. Not having a dog I have no idea about any dog parks in our area, although I imagine there must be one somewhere. Sybil, that is one amazing boulder with the tree roots hugging it, supporting the tree growing on top of it. Extraordinary!
ReplyDeleteI really loved that pic of the tree roots on the boulder. Glad you liked it too.
DeleteThis year a Peterborough off-leash dog park was opened opposite Beavermead Park, off Ashburnham Drive. Called 'Howler's Corners', it's operated by the City and the Peterborough Dog Club. Well, now there's someplace!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by CanadianGadfly. I used to live in Peterborough and am glad to hear they have an off leash park finally. Wasn't there another one in the south end ?
DeleteWe are fortunate to have one just a short walk from the house, and on any given week night you can see many regular characters, both canine and human. My girls love it so much they now recognize the word "park" in conversation, and we have resorted to spelling out the word when we need to say it to avoid over-excitement.
ReplyDeleteDog parks are such marvellous places for humans as well as their companion animals. I always have great chats there -- though Im sure you've guessed that I am a chatty sort. lol
DeleteWow, so many great places to walk with your dogs! There's a great fenced off-leash dog park in Ottawa that we used to go to. We went to the grand opening of the Lunenburg dog park, but haven't been back since. We tend to bring our dogs to the beach for some off-leash time.
ReplyDeleteNo shortage of beaches for you and your doggins now (s)Kelly !
